Woman claims that she was given an incorrect cancer diagnosis

Medical malpractice 04

NEW ORLEANS – A Jefferson Parish woman alleges she was incorrectly given a cancer diagnosis.

Quinnell Reddick filed a suit against The State of Louisiana, doing business as The Interim LSU Public Hospital; Alan Bland Marr M.D.; Chranjiv S. Virk M.D.; John P. Hunt III M.D.; and Amir Abdul-Jabbar M.D. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Nov. 29.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was a patient of the defendants and was told she had thyroid cancer. The suit states that the plaintiff had a thyroidectomy in 2013 at the recommendation of the defendants even though after the fact it was found that that procedure had been unnecessary because she did not have cancer.

The defendants are accused of negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. The plaintiff is represented by Mark W. Smith of Mark W. Smith & Associates of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge Clare Jupiter.
