LAKE CHARLES — The American Law Society Board of Directors recently elected James Sudduth III as a new member.

“I was honored to receive the phone call and enjoyed the interview process,” Sudduth told The Louisiana Record. “Going through an interview process in order to become a part of a legal society further reinforces just how serious this organization takes the process of 'vetting' new members. I am humbled and honored at the opportunity and recognition.”

The group received a nomination submission from a peer or former client for review, Jeffrey Finder, CEO of the American Law Society, told The Louisiana Record.

“Our admissions team vetted Sudduth across a variety of criteria, including professional accomplishments,” Finder said. “Presumably, he will enrich American Law Society's brand by representing outstanding lawyers from the state of Louisiana. Hopefully, Sudduth’s recognition will help him improve his firm's practice and marketability.”

Membership is by invitation only.

Sudduth is the founder of Sudduth and Associates, according to the firm's website. His areas of expertise include criminal litigation, employment litigation, discrimination, employment, and personal injury litigation. His bar admissions include Louisiana, Texas, the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Louisiana, U.S. District Court Middle District of Louisiana, U.S. District Court Western District of Louisiana, U.S. District Court Eastern District of Texas, and the U.S. Court of Appeals 5th Circuit.

Sudduth graduated from the Louisiana State University Law Center in 2013 and returned to his native Lake Charles to be an assistant district attorney in the Calcasieu Parish district attorney's office. He was promoted to misdemeanor section chief in his time there.

Sudduth said the American Law Society is a well-respected group that seeks to acknowledge lawyers that are performing at their best in their respective field or fields of practice.

“To gain the opportunity to reach out and learn from other lawyers who could quite easily be described as experts in their fields of practices will be a tremendous asset to my membership, not to mention the countless databases of materials, expert referrals, etc. that are available to members,” he said.

In addition to providing recognition and on-demand experts, the American Law Society on its website said it serves as a “marketplace for a variety of lenders,” and is a service for lawyers who want to access capital privately for cases and clients.

“I hope that my professional work and experiences can be sources of knowledge that other lawyers can learn from in order to better their practices,” Sudduth said. “I look forward to the opportunity to network and learn from my fellow colleagues who are part of this prestigious group.”

The American Law Society said it showcases the credentials and accomplishments of its member attorneys and is the “official home of America’s top lawyers.,” according to the organization's website. The group also said that it recognizes vetted lawyers by specifically showcasing expertise and professional accomplishments through videos, articles, verdicts and case settlements, while offering “access to the largest private network of experts in the world with ‘on demand’ concierge services from every known academic discipline.”
