NEW ORLEANS – An Orleans Parish woman is suing an attorney, alleging failure to provide her with professional assistance.

Cynthia Wegmann filed a lawsuit Dec. 30 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court against Theresa M. Piglia of Metairie, alleging breach of contract and malpractice.

According to the complaint, Wegmann an Piglia were in a business relationship in which the plaintiff received legal counsel from the defendant, an attorney at law. The suit states during the course of their relationship, Piglia failed to take the appropriate actions through drafting and filing a petition that did not state the plaintiff's rights against her former husband.

The fault of the lawyer resulted in Wegmann being forced to seek another source of counsel and also resulted in the plaintiff being unable to enforce a valid contract with her ex-husband.

Wegmann seeks all reasonable damages for the defendant's malpractice, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. The plaintiff is represented by attorney William F. Bologna of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge Sidney H. Cates IV.

The Orleans Parish Civil District Court Case number 2016-12707.
