Customer blames Pier 1 Imports for fall

GRETNA – A customer is suing Pier 1 Imports, alleging the defendant's negligence caused her to trip and fall outside of a Pier 1 Imports store in Jefferson Parish.

Jean Rice of Jefferson Parish filed a lawsuit Jan 24 against Pier 1 Imports (U.S.) Inc, Flounder Investments LLC, and ABC Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the claim, Rice was in the Pier 1 Imports located on Veterans Boulevard in the Jefferson Parish Feb. 3, 2016. The suit states that as Rice was walking out of the store to her car, she was caused to trip and fall on a piece of debris that had been left on the ground, resulting in injuries.

The defendants are accused of negligence through failing to keep the premises safe and clear from debris and failing to warn of the danger.

Rice seeks all reasonable damages, attorney fees and court costs. She is represented by attorney Joseph J. Lepow of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy A. Miller.
