Customer blames Office Depot for fall

GRETNA – A customer is suing Office Depot, alleging negligence caused her to fall and suffer injuries at the defendant's store in Harvey.

Linda Newton filed a suit Feb. 7 against Office Depot Inc., et. al in 24th Judicial District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the claim, Newton was in the Office Depot, 1500 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, on Feb. 10, 2016. The suit states Newton tripped and fell when a chair mat curled up at the edge. The fall. the lawsuit states, resulted in injuries to the plaintiff's arm, back and legs and has required her to undergo epidural steroid injections for the past year, as well as two radio-frequency ablations.

Office Depot is accused of negligently failing to ensure that the store was safe for customers, failing to warn of the danger, failing to remedy the dangerous situation and overall negligence.

Newton seeks all reasonable damages, attorney fees and court costs. She is represented by attorney Christopher S. Liuzza of Liuzza Law Firm LLC in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael P. Mentz.
