Hotel guest blames Marriott hotel for fall

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing the owners of a Marriott hotel in Metairie, alleging their negligence caused her injuries.

Deborah Belanger filed a suit Feb. 13 against Summit Hotel OP LP, Residence Inn by Marriott LLC, doing business as Marriott Residence Inn New Orleans Metairie, and Marriott International Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court, alleging negligence.

According to the claim, Belanger was at the Residence Inn New Orleans Metairie, on Galleria Boulevard on April 4, 2016. The suit states she fell in the bathroom due to a slippery condition of the bathtub, resulting in injuries to her face and necessary medical treatment.

The defendant is accused of negligently failing to ensure the bathroom and its facilities were safe to use, failing to remedy the dangerous condition by supplying a rubber mat or a non-skid surface and failing to warn of the danger.

Belanger seeks damages up to $75,000, court costs and all equitable relief. She is represented by attorney James Maher III in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.
