NEW ORLEANS – A Westwego sports bar is accused of unlawfully broadcasting a fight.

J&J Sports Productions Inc. filed a complaint on Feb. 20 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against El Rancho Sports Bar & Grill LLC and Emilio Martinez-King alleging that they violated the Cable & Television Consumer Protection and Competition Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on March 8, 2014, plaintiff was the exclusive commercial domestic distributor of the televised program "Toe to Toe, Saul Alvarez vs. Alfredo Angulo Light Middleweight Championship Fight." The plaintiff holds El Rancho Sports Bar & Grill LLC and Martinez-King responsible because the defendants allegedly unlawfully and willfully intercepted and broadcasted plaintiff's program for private financial gain and without plaintiff's permission and/or authorization.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks statutory damages, attorney’s fees, costs and all further relief as the court may deem just and proper. It is represented by Ronnie J. Berthelot of The Berthelot Law Firm LLC in Baton Rouge.
