LAFAYETTE – An Alexandria woman formerly employed by the VA hospital in the city alleges she experienced disability discrimination.

Debra Moore filed a complaint on March 20 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana against David J. Shulkin alleging that the Veterans Affairs secretary failed to comply with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that due to defendant's denial of her request to use her annual leave so that she could attend her medical appointment in September 2015, she was forced to resign involuntarily.

The plaintiff holds Shulkin responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide reasonable accommodations and discriminated against her on the basis of her disability.

The plaintiff seeks back and future pay and general damages. She is represented by J. Ryan Jones III in Lake Charles.
