Couple claims Kenner Wal-Mart falsely accused husband of theft

GRETNA – A couple claims that Wal-Mart falsely accused the husband of stealing.

Jayne B. Phillpott, wife of Wayne H. Phillpott, filed a suit April 17 against Wal-Mart Louisiana LLC; Palmer, Reifler & Associates P.A.; and Darleen Nicole Sheppard in the 24th Judicial District Court alleging defamation.

According to the claim, Wayne Phillpott was at the Wal-Mart at 300 W. Esplanade Ave., Kenner, on April 15, 2016, when the incident occurred. The suit states that the plaintiff was falsely accused of stealing goods worth less than $20 and charges were pressed. The defendants gave the police one of the allegedly stolen items but kept the other in order to make the plaintiff appear guilty, according to court documents.

The defendant is accused of defamation, libel and slander.

The plaintiffs are seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiffs are represented by Jerome M. Volk Jr. of the Law Offices of Jerome M. Volk Jr. in Kenner.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner Jr.

The 24th Judicial District Court Case number 771080.
