Suit claims Cenac Marine Services failed to provide safe workplace

Slip02

NEW ORLEANS — A seaman is suing Cenac Marine Services LLC, a vessel operator, alleging that insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries for a fall he suffered.

Derrick Norberg filed a complaint on May 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Cenac Marine Services alleging that it breached its duty to exercise reasonable care and caution for plaintiff's safety.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, on Aug. 22, 2015, he was a seaman working aboard the defendant's M/V Weezie vessel when he was injured because of a fall on a slippery deck. The plaintiff suffered physical and mental pain, lost wages and medical-related expenses. The plaintiff holds Cenac Marine Services responsible because it allegedly failed to provide a safe place to work and to pay maintenance and cure benefits.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages as are reasonable in the premises, plus interest, costs of these proceedings and all general and equitable relief as the court may award. He is represented by Jim S. Hall and Joseph W. Rausch of Jim S. Hall & Associates in Metairie.
