Genesis Marine LLC of Delaware seeks $3 million for alleged back injury

Tugboat 01

NEW ORLEANS – A Jones Act seaman alleges he was injured while working aboard a tow boat because of an unsafe working environment.

Milton Averett Jr. filed a complaint on June 30 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Genesis Marine LLC of Delaware alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 19 he was as a member of the crew assigned to defendant's tow boat, M/V Genesis Vigilant, when he slipped and fell in the engine room walkway and sustained injuries to his lower back. The plaintiff holds Genesis Marine LLC of Delaware responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to perform appropriate engine room cleaning and to give proper and appropriate warnings to its crew.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in a sum of $3 million, plus interest, costs of these proceedings and all other general and equitable maritime relief. He is represented by Berney L. Strauss and Rhett E. King of Strauss & King PLLC in New Orleans.
