Woman seeking damages for alleged injuries sustained in apartment fire

NEW ORLEANS – A woman claiming she was injured in a fire at her apartment is seeking damages through a lawsuit.

Melissa Simmons filed a complaint against Cimarron Underground Services LLC, Entergy Louisiana LLC, Zurich American Insurance Company and Dale Brock on Jan. 25 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court. According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff is seeking damages for an incident that took place on Jan. 26, 2018, when Simmons was in a lease agreement at the address of 1505 Basin Street in New Orleans.

The plaintiff was stuck in the building during a fire that resulted from a ruptured gas line, causing her to suffer from mental and physical anguish. The defendant is accused of negligence and failure to ensure the plaintiff's safety.


The plaintiff seeks all reasonable damages, court costs, attorney fees and all appropriate relief. Simmons is represented by attorney D. Patrick Keating of Nugent Keating Law Firm in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Ethel S. Julien.
