GRETNA – A corporate retailer is being sued by a woman who claims she was severely injured when a bookshelf fell on her on its premisses.
Karen Dillon filed suit against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on March 26.
Dillon claims that on Aug. 6, 2013 she was a customer at the Wal-Mart located at 4810 LaPalco Blvd. in Marrero when a bookcase fell off a shelf and landed on her. The plaintiff alleges she was severely injured in the incident.
The defendant is accused of failing to properly maintain the premises, failing to warn patrons of the dangerous condition, failing to properly inspect the premises to repair the condition and failing to have an adequate safety program.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medicine, drugs, hospitalization, medical care, lost wages, loss of wage earning capacity, pain and suffering, residual disabilities, mental anguish, emotional upset, distress, psychological distress, loss of enjoyment of life and rehabilitation.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael P. Mentz.
