NEW ORLEANS – A mother is seeking damages after her minor child was allegedly injured while at school by an employee.

Jamella Mitchell, on behalf of her minor son, filed a suit against ReNew-Reinventing Education, doing business as ReNew McDonogh City Park Academy, The Recovery School District through the Louisiana Department of Education, Patrick Dobard, Arch Insurance Co. and John Doe in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Sept. 12.

According to the claim, the plaintiff's minor child was attending class at ReNew McDonogh City Park Academy on April 6 when the incident occurred. The suit states that the minor child was asked to leave the classroom after laughing and that he was physically restrained by an adult and wrestled to the ground. The plaintiff alleges this incident caused the child to strike his head and become unconscious.

The defendants are accused of negligence through failing to supervise employees properly and negligent training.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by John D. Sileo and Casey W. Moll of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Paula A. Brown.
