Harrah's parking lot death is subject of suit

Cueria

A death in Harrah's Casino parking lot is the basis behind a suit against the Jazz Casino Co. LLC filed April 13 in Orleans Parish District Court.

According to the suit filed by New Orleans attorney R.B. Cueria, a valet for Harrah's lost control of a Lincoln Navigator on March 14 and "backed into Quiana Jones causing her to suffer personal injuries from which she ultimately died." The petition was filed on behalf of Danielle Fox, the administratrix of the estate of Jones and on behalf of her minor children.

The suit names Zuri Sandifer, the valet who lost control of the vehicle, and National Automotive Insurance Co. as co-defendants along with Jazz Casino Co.

Sandifer is allegedly negligent in several areas including "failure to maintain control of the vehicle," "being inattentive while operating a motor vehicle," and "traveling in an excessive rate of speed for existing traveling conditions," according to the suit.

The petition alleges that Jazz Casino is liable under Article 2315 of the Louisiana Civil Code and for negligently entrusting a vehicle, failing to provide business invitees, such as decedent, with a safe place to walk and using unsafe operating practices, among other things.

A report in the Times-Picayune states that the accident happened at 12:15 a.m. and that Sandifer struck a total of five vehicles and three people, including Jones.
