Sheetrock workers sue over unpaid wages

Three New Orleans laborers are seeking more than $7,000 in unpaid wages from sheetrock work they completed in August 2009, according to a suit filed in Orleans Parish Civil District Court on April 8.

Filed by attorney Vanessa Spinazola on behalf of Yobani Garcia, Elsa Flores and Selvin Medina, the suit alleges that the plaintiffs performed "sheetrock installation as well as renovations to bathrooms, columns, and a staircase in both the main house and a pool house" but that to date, no payment has been made.

The named defendants in the suit are Sergio Hechenique, Juan Rocha, Results Unlimited of New Orleans Inc. and Ifeyani Okpalobi.

The suit alleges that Donna Kraus of Bayou Title Inc. contacted the plaintiffs on behalf of the defendants to settle the claims. "The laborers agreed that they would cancel their liens upon receipt of $7,620.44" but those payments have not been made, the suit details.

The defendants also have been accused of having unreasonably withheld payment from the laborers. The suit pleads for a principle amount of at least $7,500, plus interest, costs and attorneys' fees.
