A former employee of the New Orleans Regional Business Park has filed a lawsuit in an attempt to recover unpaid wages.
Claiming her former employer has failed to comply with Louisiana wage law, Zandra A. Washington filed suit on Sept. 30 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court. Dwight Jarrett is named as a co-defendant.
According to the lawsuit, Washington began employment with the Business Park in January 2005 and her last day of employment was Sept. 30, 2009.
She claims she was not paid fully for her accrued wages and vacation despite making a written demand.
Washington states she has not been paid for three days wages. She also claims she was not paid for 27.25 hours of accrued vacation time. Her rate of pay was $35.71 per hour, the suit claims.
The plaintiff is asking the court for attorney's fees and an award of wages and pay due plus up to 90 days wages as a penalty for violating Louisiana statutes.
Washington is represented by Tracie L. Washington of New Orleans.
A jury trial is requested.
U.S. District Judge Herbert A. Cade is assigned to the case.
