U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier has tasked 17 attorneys, one of whom is the father of a candidate for Louisiana lieutenant governor, with leading multidistrict litigation over the BP oil spill.
Fifteen attorneys will serve on the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee, and another four -- two of whom are on the PSC -- will make up the Plaintiff Executive Committee. One member of the PSC is Louisiana lawyer Calvin Fayard.
His daughter Caroline is a Democrat facing Republican Secretary of State Jay Dardenne in a Nov. 2 special election for lieutenant governor.
