A high school football injury is the subject of a liability suit against the Orleans Parish School Board set to begin a two-day bench trial Dec. 16 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, LouisianaRecord.com has learned.
Orleans resident Shontell Julian is suing on behalf of her son Roy Joseph III, after high school football coaches and medical staff allegedly neglected to treat an injury that resulted in Julian breaking his neck.
New Orleans attorneys Ike Spears and Tammy Stewart filed the suit in February 2007. It claims that "neither the coaching staff nor the team physician insure (sic) that Roy Joseph III received timely and proper medical attention."
The suit seeks damages and claims the OPSB is liable for negligence for failing to provide proper equipment for players, failing to provide proper emergency medical care and other allegations.
New Orleans attorneys Trevor Bryan, Clare Jupiter and Donesia Turner are representing the OPSB.
