Cyclist sues Entergy after accident involving repair truck

An Orleans Parish man is suing Entergy and one if its employees, alleging injuries sustained when the cyclist collided with an open car door belonging to the electric company.

Ryan Peterson claims he was riding his bicycle down St. Claude Avenue when an Entergy employee opened the driver side door of his truck "suddenly and without warning," causing him to fall from his bike.

The suit claims Peterson sustained injuries to his eye, face, throat, and shoulder and claims damages for damage to his bicycle, medical expenses, "emotional stress and strain" and "loss of enjoyment of life," among other charges.

The suit claims the Entergy employee was negligent for "failing to see what he should have seen" and "failing to provide for the safety of oncoming vehicles."

Entergy has "liability under the doctrine of respondiate superior," the suit claims.

New Orleans attorney Darleen Jacobs filed the petition for damages May 13.

Orleans Parish Judge Ethel Julien has been assigned this case.
