Crosscut Construction sued by homeowner over post-Katrina remodeling

Smith

A New Orleans woman is suing Crosscut Construction because an over $100,000 remodeling and elevation job allegedly was negligently and improperly performed.

New Orleans attorney Halima Smith filed the suit on behalf of Ethel Coleman on June 8 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court.

The suit claims Coleman hired Crosscut in March 2006 to repair damage to her home sustained during Hurricane Katrina.

Crosscut was paid $68,000 for remodeling the house, $15,600 for roof replacement and $25,000 for elevation of the house, the suit claims.

The suit alleges the defendants were negligent in their failure to install a proper subfloor after elevating the home; failure to level the home after the elevation; failure to properly support the elevation; failure to properly and completely install an outdoor deck; failure to properly install siding; failure to complete the electrical work; failure to complete the plumbing work; failure to completely install the heating/AC unity and failure to install hurricane window.

As a result of the alleged breach of contract, the plaintiff had to hire another contractor for the amount of $34,000, the suit claims.

Orleans Parish Judge Sidney Cates IV was assigned this case.
