A Baton Rouge man is suing the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), claiming excessive force from arresting officers caused him physical injuries.
New Orleans attorney Michael Winters filed the suit June 29 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court on behalf of Rodney Benjamin.
The suit claims Benjamin suffered "multiple fractures to his jaw, and facial structure" as a result of the "brutality exercised by excessive force on behalf of the New Orleans police officer."
The suit does not indicate how Benjamin came into contact with the NOPD.
Benjamin seeks damages for medical bills, pain and suffering, loss of work and other charges.
Orleans Parish Judge Madeleine Landrieu has been assigned this case.
