Kangaroo Express sued after woman slips and breaks wrist

In a recently filed lawsuit, a gas station and convenience store is being accused of failing to clean up oil, resulting in a St. Tammany Parish woman falling and breaking her wrist.

Julia L. Moore of St. Tammany Parish filed suit against The Pantry Inc. d/b/a Kangaroo Express on June 17 in St. Tammany Parish District Court over injuries she claimed to have suffered after slipping on oil. The defendant removed the case to federal court in New Orleans on July 14.

The alleged incident occurred on June 20, 2010. Moore claims she broke her wrist while attempting to brace herself in a fall. She also claims her injury required surgery.

The defendant is accused of negligence for failing to maintain safe premises, failing to remove oil or other slippery substance from the parking lot area of the gas station and convenience store, failing to clean up or remove a spill after being provided constructive or actual knowledge of the spill.

The plaintiff is seeking damages for pain and suffering and medical expenses.

Moore is represented by Paul E. Harrison and C. deShea Richardson of the Law Offices of Paul E. Harrison in Mandeville.

U.S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt is assigned to the case.
