Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood and Golf Coast Claims Facility (GCCF) Administrator are sparring in Mississippi state court, according to an Associated Press report.
The AP reports that Feinberg has filed a motion in Hinds County Chancery Court to remove a lawsuit filed by Hood seeking the claims records from Mississippi residents filing with the GCCF.
Feinberg argues that, since the 2010 BP oil spill occurred on the Outer Continental Shelf, the proper jurisdiction is in federal court.
Hood has argued he's enforcing the Mississippi Consumer Protection Act, which should be settled in state court.
In April, Hood filed a letter criticizing Feinberg and the GCCF.
Hood wrote that Feinberg continued to violate the act and the rights of claimants.
He accused Feinberg of manipulating desperate claimants through economic duress.
He wrote that Feinberg obtained improperly broad releases of claims and rights in exchange for inadequate consideration.
To date, the GCCF has paid out more than $5 billion to more than 300,000 claimants.
In June, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported that Feinberg was speeding up the claims process.
The report stated that the GCCF paid out some $700 million in the two months since the one-year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon oilrig explosion. That raised the amount of claims paid from 11 percent to 26 percent.
