Deckhand sues for $2 million after falling overboard

Abramson

NEW ORLEANS - A deckhand has filed a lawsuit for $2 million after he fell overboard when the vessel's captain suddenly moved the vessel.

Charles H. Parson filed suit against Chet Morrison Contractors on Jan. 6 in federal court in New Orleans.

Parson was employed by Chet Morrison as a seaman and was assigned to the M/V Caroline Morrison. The alleged incident occurred on July 23, 2010 while Parson was standing on the stern of the vessel and attempting to tie the vessel off to the offshore platform. While he was standing at the stern, the vessel's captain moved the vessel forward, which caused Parson to fall overboard.

Parson swam to one of the legs of the platform and clung to it until he was pulled back aboard the M/V Caroline Morrison.

The plaintiff is asking the court for an award of damages for physical and emotional injuries, disabilities, loss of lifestyle, medical expenses, wage loss, impairment of wage earning capacity, plus maintenance and cure, attorney's fees, punitive damages, court costs and interest.

Parson is represented by David A. Abramson and Patrick J. Schepens of Lewis, Kullman, Sterbcow & Abramson in New Orleans.
