Sleep Inn sued after woman slips in shower

NEW ORLEANS - A Florida woman has filed a lawsuit against a Kenner hotel claiming that she was injured when she slipped on the hotel's shower floor.

Geraldine Richards filed suit against Choice Hotels International Inc. d/b/a Sleep Inn New Orleans Airport on May 11 in Jefferson Parish District Court. The defendant removed the case to federal court in New Orleans on June 18.

After checking into the Sleep Inn in Kenner on May 13, 2011, Richards claims she was injured when she slipped on the shower floor.

After she fell, she noticed that the floor of the shower was extremely slippery and there was no shower mat and no non-skid type surface.

The defendant is accused of failing to keep the premises in a reasonably safe condition and free of hazardous conditions.

The plaintiff is asking the court for an award of damages for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, interest, and court costs.

Richards is represented by Metairie attorney Anthony L. Glorioso.

U.S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey is assigned to the case.
