Garden District Pub sued by contractor who allegedly cut hand on toilet tank

NEW ORLEANS – A Jefferson Parish man has filed suit against a local bar for injuries he claims to have received on its premises.

Todd C. Brechtel filed suit against AJS Partners, LLC, Garden District Pub and their insurer in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on July 24. Brechtel claims he was an employee of John Montalbo Plumbing and Heating and was working at the Garden District Pub making repairs.

The plaintiff alleges when he was making the repairs on the bar's premises he sustained a severe and permanently disabling injury to his left index finger and left hand. Brechtel asserts the incident occurred when he was removing a broken commode tank top and hit hand on a "razor sharp" edge.

The defendant is accused of failing to warn the plaintiff of the danger, failing to properly inspect and maintain the premises and failing to exercise due and ordinary care.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, loss of earnings, loss of earning capacity, physical pain and suffering and mental pain and suffering.

Brechtel is represented by Metairie-based attorney Anthony L. Glorioso.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Ethel S. Julien.

Case no. 2012-07320.
