Orleans Parish woman sues Dollar General over slip on dish liquid

NEW ORLEANS - An Orleans Parish woman has filed a lawsuit against a Dollar General Store claiming that she slipped in dishwashing liquid and sustained injuries.

Brandy Brooks filed suit against Dolgen Corp. d/b/a Dollar General Store and XYZ Insurance Co. on Nov. 12 in Orleans Parish District Court. The defendant removed the case to federal court in New Orleans on Dec. 26.

The accident occurred on Dec. 28, 2011 as Brooks was shopping at the Dollar General Store and slipped on dishwashing liquid on the floor.

The defendants are accused of negligence for failing to provide safe environment for patrons, failing to warn of unsafe conditions, and for failing to properly maintain the premises.

Brooks is seeking an award of damages for medical expenses, mental and physical pain and suffering, residual disability, loss of use, loss of earnings capacity, interest, and court costs.

The plaintiff is represented by New Orleans attorney Tim L. Fields and Gretna attorney Shelly R. Sessions.

U.S. District Judge Helen G. Berrigan is assigned to the case.
