First Student Inc. sued by student over slip and fall injuries

NEW ORLEANS – A Jefferson Parish school bus transportation company is being sued by a student claiming she slipped and fell off the bottom floorboard of one of the company’s buses.

Viola Grant filed a lawsuit against First Student Inc. in the Orleans Parish Central District Court. Grant asserts that while exiting the bus it moved forward unexpectedly causing her to slip off the bottom floorboard to the ground outside. The plaintiff claims the floorboard was wet and very slippery. As a result of the fall, Grant allegedly sustained a fractured left ankle.

The defendant is accused of failure to operate the bus in a safe fashion, failure to take proper precautions regarding the slippery exit floorboard and failure to warn plaintiff.

An unspecified amount is sought for all medical expenses, loss wages, pain and suffering and permanent physical disability.

The plaintiff is represented by Scott W. McQuaig of McQuaig & Associates, LLC.

This case has been assigned to Division I Judge .

Case no. 2012-10286.
