NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans woman is suing the managers and operators of a local apartment complex after allegedly slipping and falling at the base of a stairwell.

Melinda Marie Powers filed a lawsuit against Bruno Inc., St. Ann Apartments LLC and Metro-Wide Apartments LLC in the Orleans Parish Central District Court on Feb. 14.

Powers alleges that while approaching the stairwell closest to her apartment she slipped and fell in a green slimy substance, later identified as algae that formed as a result of water leaking from an air conditioning unit, and sustained substantial bodily injury.

The defendants are accused of failing to timely inspect their property for defects and hazards, allowing an air-conditioning unit to drip water in a common area and failing to remove the green slime that was growing in area where tenants and guest traversed.

The suit does not specify the amount sought by plaintiff for medical expenses, pain and suffering, permanent anatomical impairment and loss of enjoyment of life.

Powers is being represented by attorney James Maher III of New Orleans.

This case has been assigned to Division J Judge Paula A. Brown.

Case no. 2013-1371.
