NEW ORLEANS –A New Orleans woman is suing two insurance companies after her homeowner’s insurance policy was transferred to another company without her consent, which she claims resulted in her being grossly underpaid following Hurricane Isaac damage.
Shauna Temple filed a lawsuit against Lighthouse Property Insurance Corporation and Louisiana Citizen’s Property Insurance Company in the Orleans Parish Central District Court on March 8.
Temple claims the compensation she received for damage done during Hurricane Isaac did not match the severity in damages to her structure that eventually led to mold growth.
Lighthouse has been accused of breach of contract, failing to provide plaintiff with recovery to which she is entitled, failing to take into account the costs of labor, services, raw materials and other construction necessities and failing to initiate the loss adjustment process within 30 days of notification of loss. Louisiana Citizen is accused of failing to notify the plaintiff that her policy had been assumed by Lighthouse.
The plaintiff is seeking compensatory damages, statutory penalties, costs, attorney fees and legal interest.
Attorney Alfred A. Olinde Jr. of -based Reasonover and Olinde LLC is representing Temple.
This case has been assigned to Division L Judge Kern A. Reese.
