Apartment building sued by tenant who claims ceiling fell on her

Kenneth miller

GRETNA – An apartment building tenant is suing for injuries she alleges occurred when a ceiling fell on her as she was washing clothes in a laundry room.

Kristen Young filed suit against Samia Companies LLC, Leonard J. Samia in his capacity as trustee for Les Realty Trust B, John Doe, Liberty Surplus Insurance Company and Louisburg Square Apartments in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 23.

Young alleges that she was doing her laundry at the Louisburg Square Apartments when the ceiling suddenly fell on her. The plaintiff asserts she was injured in the incident. Young claims that an unknown workman was on the roof of the structure at the time of the incident.

The defendant is accused of failing to warn residents of a danger, failing to perform routine inspections, failing to adopt policies and procedures to discover and correct hazards, failing to properly secure an area, failing to adhere to safety measures, failing to provide proper supervision over construction employees and failing to provide safety to the public.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life, permanent disability, medical expenses and lost wages.

Young is represented by Kenneth M. Miller of New Orleans-based Dudley DeBosier Injury Lawyers.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. LaDart.

Case no. 732-241.
