GRETNA – Two men who were installing an elevator when it failed, causing them to fall to the bottom of an elevator shaft, are suing.

Wendell Johnson and Warren Lewis filed suit against Cargill Incorporated, PMI Iowa LLC, Shumacher Elevator Company and Hoist & Crane Service Groups Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Nov. 12.

Johnson and Lewis assert they were working for Vector Electric at the Cargill Inc. grain elevator in Westwego when an elevator they were working on dropped after its cables snapped. The plaintiffs claim the defendants negligently repaired the elevator, which resulted in it falling and ultimately resulting in them being seriously injured. Johnson and Lewis allege they both have sustained neck and back injuries and further Johnson submits he also injured his hip and feet.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for personal injury, severe pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of wage earning capacity and medical bills.

Johnson and Lewis are represented by attorney Stephen J. Johnson of Houma.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.

Case no. 732-825.
