Timeshare owner suing broker and legal licensee over alleged fees for transferring ownership

GRETNA – A local man who tried to sell his timeshare in Mexico is suing two companies that were involved in his attempt to sell the timeshare and subsequently allegedly charged him large fees to transfer the property.

Milo Suchma filed suit against William S. Glatt Jr., Malinda T. Glatt, Escrow Inc., Steven Goldstein, Keith Bell and Eventworld Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 6.

Suchma alleges that he is the owner of a registered one-week-plus-one vacation fair timeshare at Mayan Palace Resorts in Mexico and that he attempted to sell this timeshare, but that Escrow Inc. and Eventworld Inc. charged outrageous fees for the transaction.

The plaintiff claims that he found a buyer willing to pay $24,500 for the timeshare and that he was warned fees would be charged for the sale by the defendants, but was told that he would be reimbursed for those fess after the sale. Suchma asserts that he paid a total of $13,475.92 in fees, but was unable to close on the property and thus unable to finalize the transaction.

The plaintiff alleges that the defendants claim the Mexican bureaucracy held up the sale.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract, negligence and unjust enrichment.

Damages less than $50,000 are sought by the plaintiff.

Suchma is represented by William H. Eckert of Metairie-based Ungarino & Eckert LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robert A. Pitre Jr.
