GRETNA – A local grocery store is being sued by a customer who claims she was injured after slipping in cooking oil and falling to the ground.

Linda St. Cyr filed suit against Winn-Dixie Montgomery Inc., Winn-Dixie store #1440 and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on Jan. 30.

St. Cyr claims that she was shopping at the Winn-Dixie located at 4627 Westbank Expressway in Marrero when she slipped and fell in cooking oil that was on the floor in a canned foods aisle. The plaintiff asserts that due to the incident she suffered serious and disabling injuries.

The defendants are accused of failing to inspect and maintain proper upkeep of the premises, failing to warn of possible dangers and failing to take all reasonable care and caution.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, emotional distress, medical expenses and loss of enjoyment of life.

St. Cyr is represented by Vincent P. Scallan of the Metairie-based The Caluda Law Firm.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Stephen D. Enright Jr.

Case no. 735-085.
