Oakwood Mall sued by woman claiming injury from fall on loose rug

GRETNA – A local mall is being sued by a patron who was allegedly injured in a fall on a loose rug.

Lazelle Thompson filed suit against Oakwood Shopping Center, Millard Mall Services Inc., A-1 Services Inc. and their insurers in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 16.

Thompson claims that she was a patron at the Oakwood Shopping Center located at 197 Westbank Expressway in Gretna when she lost her footing on a loose rug and fell to the floor. The plaintiff alleges she received severe and disabling injuries in the incident.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain a reasonably safe place for patrons, failing to take necessary measures to protect the safety of patrons, failing to properly maintain and supervise the premises, failing to warn patrons of the danger, failing to take steps to avoid the incident and failing to supervise employees and contractors.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of earnings, loss of earning capacity, loss of consortium, loss of enjoyment of life, penalties and attorney’s fees.

Thompson is represented by Anthony J. Milazzo III of New Orleans-based Edward J. Womac Jr. & Associates LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Donald A. Rowan Jr.
