GRETNA – A doctor is being sued by a patient for allegedly not completely removing her uterus during a hysterectomy.

Jacqueline Brown filed suit against Daniel J. Mompoint M.D. in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 28.

Brown asserts that on March 28, 2012, Mompoint performed a hysterectomy on her, after which she experienced bleeding. The plaintiff claims the defendant explained to her the bleeding was normal. However, Brown alleges that more than a year later, on April 10, 2013, she went to the emergency room with complaints of continued bleeding and nearly a month after that it was discovered that Mompoint had failed to fully remove her uterus and left cervical and lower uterine tissue in her for which she had to undergo significant medical treatment.

The defendant is accused of medical malpractice, failing to exercise due care under the circumstances, failing to recognize a patient’s worsening condition, failing to properly respond to a patient’s symptoms and complaints and failing to properly report complaints and findings to treating physicians and failing to follow physicians’ orders.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought by the plaintiff.

Brown is represented by John D. Sileo of the New Orleans-based The Law Office of John D. Sileo LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. LaDart.

Case no. 738-887.
