GRETNA – A local hospital is being sued for wrongful death after allegedly improperly treating a 46-year-old woman who had a brain aneurysm and later died due to sepsis.
Hoyt M. Riché, individually and on behalf of his deceased wife Regina Riché, filed suit against Dr. Frank Culicchia, Dr. Justin Owen, Jefferson Parish Hospital District No. 1, West Jefferson Medical Center and LAMMICO in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 9.
Riché contends that on May 10, 2008 his wife, Regina Riché, who was 46-years-old at the time, began complaining of a severe headache and was admitted to West Jefferson Medical Center and under the care of Culicchia and Owen. The plaintiff asserts his wife underwent a repair of a cerebral aneurysm on the same day and that the next day she began to experience nausea and six days later her symptoms increased and she was emitting foul smelling fluids that grew increasingly darker and eventually blood.
Riché claims his wife was eventually diagnosed as being septic on May 17, 2008 and died the next day.
The defendant is accused of medical malpractice.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for wrongful death, physical pain and suffering, loss of chance of survival, recovery and loss of love and affection.
Riché is represented by Michael J. Samanie of Houma-based Samanie & Stipelcovich.
The case has been assigned to Division E Judge John J. Molaison Jr.
