Medical billing contractor sues over alleged non-payment

Lien paid

GRETNA – A medical billing contractor is suing a former client who allegedly did not provide full payment when she left their employment.

Tammie P. Lee filed suit against Dr. Theodore Knatt and Iberia Bone, Joint & Foot Clinic AMC in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 8.

Lee alleges she was employed as an independent contractor and was to receive 7 percent of all monies from invoices she processed for Knatt and Iberia Bone, Joint & Foot Clinic.

The plaintiff asserts her contract with the defendant was discontinued on Dec. 19, 2012 when it would not allow her to work remotely from home. Lee claims that due to the nature of her work she was often paid far after the work was completed and that when she received a check in the amount of $473.40 on Dec. 21, 2012 it read that is was the final payment when it should not have been.

The plaintiff contends the defendants have failed to compensate her fully.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract and unjust enrichment.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for all amounts owed.

Lee is represented by Christopher K. Ralston of New Orleans-based Phelps Dunbar.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.

Case no. 740-095.
