GRETNA – A man is suing a local go-cart track where he alleges he was injured after running his vehicle into a barrier.
Kevin Lucas filed suit against Laney C. Racing LLC and NOLA Motor Sports Park in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 22.
Lucas alleges that on April 13 he was driving the go-cart around the track when he ran into a barricade of old tires that was improperly constructed and the go-cart, instead of being deflected, went under the barrier. Lucas claims that he severely fractured his left leg due to the accident.
The defendant is accused of failing to properly design and maintain the barricade, failing to equip and install a rubber safety strip around the tire barricade, failing to address warnings about the absence of a rubber safety strip, failing to inspect the barricades, failing to close the go-cart track to make necessary repairs and failing to oversee and supervise driving of go-carts at the track.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for personal injury.
Lucas is represented by George W. Byrne Jr. of Metairie-based Ungar & Byrne.
The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan Jr.
Case no. 740-598.
