Home elevation contractor sues homeowner for breach of contract

Breach of contract

GRETNA – A contractor is suing a local homeowner for allegedly breaching a contract in elevating a home.

Gulf States Contractors LLC filed suit against Steven Rodgers in the 24th Judicial District Court.

Gulf States Contractors contends it entered into an agreement to elevate Rodgers’ home located at 5828 Rue Montespan in Marrero for $68,594.08, part of which would be provided for through a grant from the Louisiana Hazard Mitigation Program. The plaintiff asserts it was hired after the original contractor was fired from the job.

Gulf States Contractors alleges that at the end of the job a joint check was to be made out to Louisiana Hazard Mitigation Program and Rodgers, however, Gulf States claims that during the final stages of the elevation Rodgers refused to cooperate to allow the elevation to be finished.

The plaintiff asserts it was unpaid for the work and finally alerted officials at the Louisiana Hazard Mitigation Program that it would no longer be participating in the program. Gulf States Contractors claims it is still owed $21,136.26.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract.

Damages in the amount of $21,136.26 are sought by the plaintiffs.

Gulf States Contractors is represented by attorney Michael F. Weiner of Covington.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.

Case no. 740-694.
