Save-A-Lot sued by woman claims back injury from fall on wet floor

GRETNA – A local grocery store is being sued by a woman who claims she received a severe back injury in a fall on its premises.

Bonnie Borges filed suit against Moran Foods LLC, Save-A-Lot and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on Sept. 11.

Borges contends that on Sept. 13, 2013 she was at the Save-A-Lot located at 5003 Lapalco Blvd. in Marrero when she slipped on a wet floor caused by a leaking refrigeration unit that was nearby. The plaintiff asserts that she received severe and disabling injuries in the incident including a bulging disc in her back and narrowing of her spine.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain a safe place for visitors, failing to take necessary measures to protect the safety of the visitor, failing to properly maintain the premises, failing to warn visitors and failing to take steps to avoid the incident.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost of earnings, loss of earning capacity, permanent disability, loss of enjoyment of life, penalties and attorney’s fees.

Borges is represented by attorney Susan H. Neathamer of Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan Jr.
