GRETNA – A discount retailer is being sued by a customer who claims she was injured when a stack of boxes fell on her.

Joni Baker, and husband Gerald, filed suit against Dollar General Corporation, Dolgencorp LLC and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court.

Baker claims that on Aug. 29, 2014 she was shopping at the Dollar General located at 7123 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie and was bent over accessing a low shelf when a store employee tossed an object on top of a wobbly stack of cases of bottled water, tea and canned tuna. The stack then fell on top of her, the suit says.

The plaintiff alleges that the cases repeatedly struck her back and neck causing severe and permanent personal injuries.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, loss of enjoyment of life and permanent disability.

Baker is represented by Paul D. Hesse of Slidell-based Jones Lagarde LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge John J. Molaison Jr.

Case no. 743-824.
