GRETNA – A local beauty college is suing a former student who allegedly dropped out of the program without paying the tuition she owes.
John Jay Beauty College Inc. filed suit against Brandie Franklin in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 5.
John Jay Beauty College Inc. asserts that Franklin enrolled on Aug. 17, 2010 and was expected to undertake a total of 1,500 hours to complete the program. The plaintiff claims that the defendant entered the school and began classes, but withdrew after completing 1,117.50 hours on June 8, 2011 after which she was told a tuition adjustment would be made to her tuition bill accounting for her leaving the program early. John Jay Beauty College Inc. alleges that Franklin still owes a portion of the tuition expenses as well as 100 percent of fees for a school kit and books as well as a $100 administrative fee.
The defendant is accused of breach of contract.
Damages in the amount of $3,977.10 is sought by the plaintiff.
John Jay Beauty College Inc. is represented by James C. Cronvich of New Orleans-based Favret & Lea.
The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.
