Funeral-goer sues church over alleged injuries in trip and fall over carpet

Practice wrongful death

GRETNA – A woman who claims she was injured in a trip and fall on a carpet while attending a funeral at a church is suing.

Glenda F. Kennedy, and husband Stephen, filed suit against Changing a Generation Full Gospel Baptist Church-West and Colony Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on Jan. 28.

Kennedy alleges that on Feb. 3, 2014 she was attending a funeral at the church located at 2731 Manhattan Blvd. in Harvey when she tripped on a carpet in fell to the floor. The plaintiff contends she was severely injured in the fall.

The defendant is accused of failing to warn of the danger on the premises, failing to provide a safe place to walk, negligently maintaining the premises, negligently failing to inspect the premises, causing an unreasonable hazard and failing to repair the premises.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, rehabilitative expenses, loss of income, loss of earnings, loss of insurability, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, distress, physical disability, physiological disability and loss of enjoyment of life.

Kennedy is represented by attorney M. Ali Shahlaei of Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.
