GRETNA – A man is suing his employer whom he alleges did not provide him with proper safety training before his fingers were cut off by a lawnmower while on the job.
Jose Valesquez filed suit against Lorenzo Rodriguez in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 20.
Valesquez alleges he was working for Rodriguez on Nov. 22, 2014 when his fingers were severed while he was operating a lawnmower at 3609 Martinique St. in New Orleans. The plaintiff contends the incident occurred in part because the defendant failed to provide him with proper training and that he did not know part of a plastic safety guard on the lawnmower was missing. Valesquez asserts that due to the incident he has had to undergo medical treatment and care.
The defendant is accused of failing to provide workers’ compensation insurance and general liability for the accident.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress, mental anguish and disabilities.
Valesquez is represented by attorney Bruce C. Better of Metairie.
The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib Jr.
Case no. 746-930.
