Telecommunications company sued over alleged damage to buried fiber optic cables

GRETNA – A telecommunications company is suing an electrical services company for allegedly damaging their underground fiber optic cables during a construction project.

Hunt Telecommunications LLC and Hunt Telecom filed suit against Diamond Electrical Company Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 23.

The plaintiff asserts it has a network of fiber optic cables buried throughout the area that provide internet and telephone services. Hunt Telecommunications claims it had fiber optic cables that were buried and clearly marked next to a construction project running along Interstate 10 in Metairie where Diamond Electrical Company Inc. was serving as a subcontractor. The plaintiff alleges that during the course of the defendant’s work in the area they severed their fiber optic cable resulting in a $34,213 repair to the property.

The defendant is accused of property damage.

Damages in the amount of $34,213 are sought for repair of the fiber optic cable plus additional attorney’s fees.

The plaintiff is represented by Edward P. Gothard of Metairie-based Nowalsky & Gothard.

The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Scott U. Schlegel.
