Nursing home, resident sued after visitor allegedly falls after foot caught in passing wheelchair

GRETNA – A woman who was visiting her father at a nursing home is suing after she was allegedly injured after her leg was caught in a wheelchair and she was thrown into a set of glass doors.

Maria Wuertz filed suit against St. Josephs Nursing Home, Employers Risk Management Services and Mrs. Joslyn in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 4.

Wuertz claims that on Feb. 4, 2014 she was a guest visiting her father at St. Josephs Nursing Home located at 405 Folse St. in Harahan when her foot became tangled in the wheels of a wheelchair operated by another resident at the nursing home, and she fell into a set of glass doors. The plaintiff alleges she suffered serious injuries in the incident,

The defendant is accused of negligence.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress, loss of function and loss of enjoyment of life.

Wuertz is representing herself pro se in the case.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Donald A. Rowan Jr.
