GRETNA – The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is being sued after one of its deputies allegedly inured her when he ran his police cruiser into the vehicle she was driving.
Shandrieka Malloy filed suit against Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and Johnny Ngai Jr. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 25.
Malloy asserts that on April 11, 2014 she was driving her car on Airline Highway in Jefferson Parish when Ngaim who in the course and scope of his employment with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, ran his police cruiser into her vehicle. The plaintiff claims she received severe injuries to her left knee, shoulder, neck and back in the incident.
The defendant is accused of failing to see what should have been seen, failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to maintain control of his vehicle, failing to apply brakes in a proper manner and failing to yield.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical bills, pain and suffering, emotional trauma, mental anguish and lost wages.
Malloy is represented by Richard V. Kohnke of New Orleans.
The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael P. Mentz.
