According to a lawsuit filed March 31 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, Illinois Central Railroad Co. is suing Cliffs North American Coal LLC, of Delaware, over a contract dispute.
"At times during the calendar year of 2013," the lawsuit states, "the defendant failed to ship the minimum amount of coal pursuant to the volume commitment it made under the Railroad Transportation Contract."
The railroad seeks $1,848,628.00 it believes it is owed in the deal, plus costs and interest.
The plaintiff is represented by attorney Benjamin R. Slater of Beirne, Maynard and Parsons of New Orleans.
